Description
Calie is a nightgown with balanced proportions, knee-length, long sleeves buttoned at the wrist, a rounded Peter Pan collar fastened with small mother-of-pearl buttons at the bodice. The bottom finishes with a tuxedo hem.
One size fits all, loose fit, the silhouette follows the drape of the cotton, light and unrestricted.
On the fabric, small flowers are hand-embroidered in white thread on white cotton, using the Murri stitch technique, a traditional craft from the Chikankari people of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The motifs are randomly distributed, making each piece unique. The detail is perceived by touch before it is revealed to the eye. The cotton is woven on mechanized looms in India, the threads carefully selected to give the fabric a vibrant irregularity.
