Description
The Janis is a nightdress with a button opening that runs the full length of the garment, collar to hem. On each side of the placket runs a Venetian ladder stitch, a very fine drawn thread embroidery that traces a subtle openwork line and a gentle pleated relief. The collar is round. The sleeves are long, each closed at the wrist by a single mother-of-pearl button. Knee length, one size fitting 36 to 42. The silhouette is ample and follows the natural drape of the cotton.
The ladder stitch is worked by hand, thread drawn after thread. The openwork is so fine it is sensed before it is seen, a detail that light reveals and fingers find again. The cotton is woven in India on artisanal power looms. The threads are carefully selected to preserve a living irregularity in the weave. The Janis comes in deep indigo and in white.

Designed in Paris, our cottons are woven, printed, and embroidered by hand between the south of the Indian peninsula and Rajasthan.
They were conceived and designed with love and respect for the gestures, the families who produce them, and ancestral traditions. A love story between croissant and paratha, pot-au-feu and butter chicken, Paris and New Delhi.
